Program Description

Program of Study: Manufacturing - Production & Design

This program is a two (2) year program for high school students.  Students will work on the manufacturing curriculum at Ben Franklin Career Center and learn the Toyota Way at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Buffalo, WV.

The goal is for students to gain full-time employment as a team member assembling engines and transmissions on the production lines at the plant once they successfully complete the program.  Employment depends on several things; number of positions the plant can hire, economy, grades, attendance, passing employment requirements for the plant, etc.  The number of spots selected for the program is based on the number the plant will need during that hiring window - when the students complete the program.  That number is subject to change within those 2 years.

Students will spend one (1) day a week at the plant in their junior year and during their senior year they will spend two (2) days during the 1st semester and four (4) days during the 2nd semester.  The 4 days during the 2nd semester is a paid internship class ($20 an hour).  Bus transportation will be provided from BFCC to TMMWV.  Juniors are responsible for any classes they miss during the one day of the week they are at the plant. Seniors will take the classes they need for graduation through The Kanawha County virtual school and/or contract classes at Ben Franklin Career Center.
