Commercial Driving

Program Description

This program is offered during the day, 6- weeks, Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 3:00PM.  This program will have classroom instruction consisting of map reading and trip planning, log book maintenance and hours of service, load distribution and redistribution.  The majority of the program will be spent driving.  

Program Entrance Requirements:

• Ben Franklin Career Center Adult Application
• Commercial Driving Program Application
• Valid Level 3 Class E Driver’s License (Noted on Driver's License)
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License for Endorsement only classes
• 18 Years Old Prior to Enrollment with one year of Level 3 Class E Licensed Driving Experience; Must be infraction  free for 1 year
• No Driving Under the Influence offenses in last two years
• No felony convictions as listed under DOT regs for Commercial Driving
• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Test Certificate (GED, TASC , etc.) * Not required for endorsement only classes i.e.. School/Passenger & Hazmat
• Application Fee ($50 paid prior to class start for seat reservation)
• DOT Physical-Results due to school 1 week before session start date and completed no more than 6 mos. prior to start date. Find DOT Physical providers here:https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/home
• Current DOT Drug Screen- Results due to school 1 week before session start date and completed no more than *3 weeks before start date (* results from test taken for previous session admittance accepted if waitlisted to next session)
• Background Check for Hazmat Endorsement
• Payment arrangements (Program costs must be paid in Full at first class date)
• Basic Reading and Math Skills
• Able to lift 100 pounds

School Buss/Passenger Endorsement- $800

Hazmat Endorsement- $250

Tanker/Double-Triple Endorsement-$250

***Currently, Class A (includes endorsements) is being offered and Class B with school bus/passenger endorsement (with restrictions) occurs within the Class A timeframe. Class A students are also eligible for Class B endorsements upon completion of the Class A course.
