AMBER RUCKER, INSTRUCTOR
Program Description
Therapeutic Services is a two year program for High School students. The program offers certifications in Patient Care Tech (nursing), Dental Aide, Phlebotomy, ECG Tech, and Health Record Specialist. The program differs from Medical Assistant in that they do most of their work in a doctor's office and this program is mainly in hospitals: Patient Care Tech, ECG Tech, Imagery Aid, Health Record Specialist, Central service Tech, Phlebotomy, as well Dental Aide. The high school students decide what area they would like to pursue in the first year. In the second year, they prepare for their clinical during first semester by training in the classroom. Their clinical time starts usually in February. The students will do clinicals Monday though Thursday until two weeks before they graduate in May. If there are openings and they student has made a good impression the student may be hired at that site. The test for their certifications are scheduled for April and are $75.00.
Students can receive as much as 14 hours of college edge credit at the time of graduation. I always stress in my class to the student that they should go to college and pursue a degree while working in the hospital. The hospital will pay for their employee's further education after being employed there 6 months to a year.
