Program Description

This is a two year, half-day Honors program for juniors and seniors. The Medical Assistant Program teaches the students how to serve the patient and assist the doctor from the appointment scheduling to the end of the visit. The students learn clerical skills as well as office nursing skills.

The Medical Assistant program at Ben Franklin Career Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE).

Entrance Requirements

  • Junior or Senior at a Kanawha County high school
  • Keyboarding experience
  • "C" or higher grade in 10th Grade Biology
  • Secondary students will need to provide their own transportation to OJT Job sites.
